We have an extensive range of semi-finished, extruded, and moulded PTFE rods. Available in virgin PTFE, modified PTFE and filled PTFE with the widest range of metric and imperial sizes, ex-stock.
- Extruded rods range from 4 mm (.3125″) diameter up to 160 mm (6.00″) diameter
- Moulded rods start from 30 mm (1.10″) diameter up to diam. 770 mm (30.25″) diameter.
MCP Engineering Plastics Limited have in-house machining and tooling capabilities. We provide precision grinding, custom made shapes and colours, with full quality product certification.
Key properties of PTFE Rod:
- High service temperature
- Superior chemical resistance
- Insulating properties
- Low permeability to gases and aggressive fluids
- Non stick
PTFE Rod has the lowest co-efficient of friction of any solid material. It is effective operating at extremely high and low temperatures, with excellent chemical resistance and superb electrical insulation properties.
The PTFE extrusion process is usually limited to the production of tubes and rods. Generally, PTFE tubes and PTFE rods with a length of more than 0.5 meters are produced by the extrusion process. The production of this kind of rough tube rods are much like a pasta making machine. The output volume is high, and the comparative cost is low. PTFE extruded rods have low pollution impurities and high cleanliness.
The PTFE moulding process is also a powder metallurgy process. The moulding process produces a wide range of blanks, not limited to tubes and rods, but also press plates, gaskets or shaped blanks. The principle of the process is to pour loose PTFE powder into the mould cavity evenly. Then the hydraulic moulding press compacts and agglomerates the PTFE to form a billet. Finally, the PTFE rod goes through a sintering furnace at about 375 degrees. Solidification and cooling follow.
MCP Engineering Plastics Limited, based on the Hertfordshire and Essex county border, are an established and experienced PTFE Rod supplier and manufacturer to a range of industries throughout the UK. We have a wide range of filled materials, in all sizes, ready for despatch, ex-stock.
