PCTFE Medical Manufacturer and Supplier

Polychlorotrifluoroethylene is a thermoplastic chlorofluoropolymer, abbreviated is PCTFE. PCTFE is sold under the brand name KEL-F® by 3M and today also sold under the brand names Neoflon®, Diakon®, Chemflour® and Tecaflon®, however PCTFE resin has the same chemical structure and properties as the original Kel-F® brand material.

PCTFE Medical Grade offers:

  • Excellent electrical, mechanical, and physical properties
  • No flammability
  • Good chemical resistance
  • Near zero moisture absorption

MCP Engineering Plastics Limited are PCTFE Medical suppliers and PCTFE Medical manufacturers for a range of medicine related applications.

We machine Medical Grade PCTFE from sheet, rod and tube. Extruded 5mm diameters to 45mm diameters. We also offer grinded material and extra annealing for strict tolerances. Irrespective of the size or volume you require, we can offer PCTFE Medical products and components to your specification.

The main field of application of PCTFE Medical is cryogenics due to the fact that it is the fluoropolymer that best retains its mechanical properties at extremely low temperatures and is therefore the least fragile of the fluoropolymers. Medical grade PCTFE is recommended for cryogenic application and handling of gases. PCTFE medical grade has better mechanical properties than other fluoropolymers and low permeability.

PCTFE (Polychlorotrifluoroethylene) is a melt-processable chlorofluoropolymer. The presence of a chlorine atom, which has a greater atomic radius than that of fluorine, gives rise to irregularities in the polymer chain and reduces polymer crystallinity. This results in PCTFE Medical having a relatively low melting point among fluoropolymers. It is also the polymer with the lowest water vapor and moisture absorption rate. It resists ignition because its Limiting Oxygen Index (LOI), which is greater than 95.

Medical grade PCTFE will resists attack by most chemicals, a property that is exhibited due to the presence of its high fluorine content. It is oxidation resistant because it does not have any hydrogen atoms.

PCTFE medical grade is incompatible with alkaline metals and in some cases with organic amines. Its use is not recommended at temperatures above 150°C.

MCP Engineering Plastics Limited, based on the Hertfordshire and Essex County border, are an established and experienced PCTFE Medical grade supplier and manufacturer to a range of industries throughout the UK. We have a wide range of filled materials, in all sizes, ready for despatch, ex-stock.
