MCP Engineering Plastics Limited are Modified PTFE suppliers and Modified PTFE manufacturers.
Derived from standard PTFE, modified PTFE is a copolymer of tetrafluoroethylene and a small quantity of a perfluorinated modifier (perfluoropropyl vinyl ether, PPVE). The modifier content is less than 1%.
Modified PTFE can be considered a second-generation PTFE. While retaining the exceptional properties of PTFE, it offers significantly improved properties:
- lower deformation under load (cold flow reduced by a factor of three)
- denser polymer structure
- reduced permeation of chemicals and gases down to half of the standard PTFE value
- smoother surfaces on machined parts
- higher transparency
- excellent weldability
Modified PTFE pushes the limits of regular PTFE, offering exciting new possibilities for a wide variety of applications. Modified PTFE has added chemicals that make it stronger and more versatile than regular PTFE and is used in a wide variety of industries, including Automotive, Aerospace, Medical Device and Liquified Natural Gas.
Modified PTFE has a substantially reduced deformation under load at 4%, as opposed to 10% for standard PTFE. This, as well as improved flexibility make modified PTFE ideal for devices that need a little give but won’t break under pressure.
Modified PTFE also has lower porosity and permeability which helps reduce the amount of liquid absorption, ideal for seals in wet environments. Additionally, modified PTFE has smoother surfaces, non-stick and dielectric properties, and a reduced cold flow. It has good metering properties, good electrical and mechanical properties. And with excellent fuel and additive resistance, Modified PTFE can replace conventional materials, making it easier to use with more aggressive lubricants and seal designs.
MCP Engineering Plastics Limited, based on the Hertfordshire and Essex County border, are an established and experienced Modified PTFE supplier and manufacturer to a range of industries throughout the UK. We have a wide range of filled materials, in all sizes, ready for despatch, ex-stock.
