NORSOK M710 is an internationally recognized standard – developed by the Norwegian Petroleum Industry – that sets out the requirements of nonmetallic sealing materials and manufacturers. The NORSOK M710 standard defines the requirements for critical elastomer sealing, seats and back up materials for permanent subsea use, including well completion, control systems and valves. The standard also applies to topside valves in critical gas systems and ensures adequate safety. All samples are tested in accordance with NORSOK M710 to measure changes in mechanical and physical performance during ageing. Test method: samples are exposed to a sour fluid (H2S-containing) at high temperature and pressure, at least three exposure times at each temperature are necessary for the application of the Arrhenius model, and thus to predict service life.
